We are pleased to be offer an exciting opportunity for Sonographers who would like to join our friendly, passionate and supportive team.

We are looking to expand our team to support the newly opened Newmarket Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) based at Newmarket Community Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a brand new centre with state-of-the-art equipment in a bright, spacious and welcoming setting.

The successful candidate(s) will be based at Newmarket CDC however the opportunity to rotate to West Suffolk Hospital and other community sites is available. The Ultrasound Department offers flexible working; full and part time hours will be considered. We are working towards 8-8 7 day working at the CDC and the wider ultrasound department.

The successful candidate will need to be self-motivated, diligent, and committed to providing an excellent service to our patients. You will be required to obtain high quality ultrasound images and diagnostic reports within the hospital and community settings.

This is an exciting time to join the West Suffolk Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, with staff participating in the planning of our new hospital (Future System Programme). We are also working closely with other hospitals within our ICS and engaging with regional Trusts around Imaging Networks.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for:

Autonomously producing high-quality ultrasound images and diagnostic reports

Maintaining high standards within the ultrasound team

Training and supervising others, including supporting new staff in induction

Teaching and promoting awareness and compliance with policies and protocols

Participating in and supporting the governance programme, setting up ultrasound audits where necessary

Participating in the ultrasound QA programme.

Working with other senior staff to ensure essential departmental administration and organisation is undertaken

The care of the patient for the duration of their time in ultrasound, maintaining dignity, physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual needs

Ensuring all personal mandatory training is kept up to date

Carrying out tasks delegated by the Service Manager

Education and qualifications

Essential

  • oQualified Healthcare Professional, registered with a recognised governing body
  • oRecognised post graduate qualification in medical or clinical ultrasound (or equivalent)
  • oComprehensive, up to date CPD portfolio related to advances in US imaging and management activities

Desirable

  • ooAdditional training/ qualification in a specific area of US scanning (for example, vascular or MSK) Professional registration with a recognised governing body
  • oQualification in US guided injections (MSK Sonographer)

Experience and knowledge

Essential

  • oDemonstrable clinical and leadership experience
  • oUnderstanding of the current challenges within general, obstetric and gynaecological US scanning
  • oExperience working in a hospital environment that supports a wide range of complex clinical examinations
  • oInterest and experience in gynaecology and obstetric ultrasound procedures
  • oA good working understanding of obstetric and gynaecology scanning in the NHS.
