Job summary

Applications are invited for a variety of rotational posts at Trust Doctor FY2 Level. These posts are available for a fixed term the first from 7th August 2024 - 5th August 2025 the second from December 2024 until 5th August 2025,

All positions will have 3 rotations, one of which will be within General Medicine; one will be within General Surgery or a surgical specialty.

The final rotation will be confirmed at a later date and discussions during interview regarding your future career will guide the Trust on what may be offered (restricted to what vacancies are available within the Trust).

All successful candidates will have the opportunity to take study leave to attend courses and conferences. The West Suffolk Hospital holds an ALS course four times a year that trainees can attend.

In addition, there is the opportunity to attend local ALERT courses and Teach the Teachers course.

The West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust has come top of the national tables for staff recommending it as a place to work or receive care.

We have an excellent MRCP PACES teaching programme providing local teaching and a MOCK PACES exam.

Trust Doctors at Foundation Level have free access to HORUS (Foundation E-Portfolio) and are allocated a Clinical Supervisor for each department.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is expected to undertake appropriate investigations and therapeutic procedures (under supervision). They will also maintain medical records of the patients' stay in hospital and dictate discharge summaries and enquiries so that they are promptly sent out to the General Practitioner.

The postholder will be working with the surgical team under consultant supervision and be expected to do a 1:10 daytime on-call. The duties of the post will be carried out in conjunction with the Specialist Registrar/Specialty Registrar/F2 doctor by means of daily ward rounds and follow-up care and the attendance at some operating sessions.

The department is a 24/7 unit dealing with patients of all ages. Patients referred from General Practitioners to Surgical and Medical specialties are seen and assessed by relevant doctors in the Emergency Assessment Unit or ED. In Emergency Medicine placements, the doctor also accepts that they will perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultants.

The postholder will be working with the surgical team under consultant supervision and be expected to do a 1:10 daytime on-call. It is the F1 Surgeons duty to maintain adequate medical records of the patients stay in hospital and to produce discharge summaries and enquiries so that they are promptly sent out to the General Practitioner. Attendance in the Out-Patient Clinic is encouraged for its educational benefits, though there are no specific duties there.

The department is a 24/7 unit dealing with unselected patients of all ages. Patients referred from General Practitioners to Surgical and Medical specialties are seen and assessed by the relevant doctors in the Emergency Assessment Unit or ED.
