Job summary

The Neonatal Unit (NNU) at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is a Level 1 Unit with 12 cots, equipped to care for babies ranging from 30 weeks gestation to full term. We are dedicated to delivering excellent family integrated care, have recently been awarded the GOLD Bliss Baby Charter Accreditation, and have recently been awarded stage 1 Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) Accreditation.

Keeping mothers and babies together is the Gold Standard in care of the newborn, and this post will enable us to support resident mothers in Neonatal Transitional Care (NTC) as primary care providers for their babies who have care requirements in excess of normal newborn care, but who are able to be cared for alongside their mothers with skilled clinical support. They will also be responsible for coordinating and facilitating timely discharge.

This vacancy is for a nursery nurse who is Passionate and who can deliver the highest quality care. The successful candidate(s) will need to be committed to working autonomously and within a team, have excellent communication skills with an ability to develop solid relationships with women and their families, whilst working alongside neonatal nurses, midwives, medics, as well as the wider multidisciplinary team.

Experience within an NNU or NTC is not essential as full training and a comprehensive induction programme will be provided, though commitment to each baby and their family through holistic family integrated care is paramount.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for providing safe and effective care to newborns and their families including parenting advice and discharge planning, on NTC as well as on the NNU.

The post holder will assist the nursing, medical and midwifery teams in the care of babies and their families, as directed by registered members of the team.

The post holder will participate in health promotion in a safe environment, and contribute to the effective and efficient day-to-day running of NTC or NNU depending on the needs of the service.

The post holder is required to be flexible to work in clinical areas such as NNU or the postnatal ward depending on service requirements.
