STREAMING
The post holder will manage and be responsible for the timely assessment and navigation of patients attending the Emergency Department. The patients attending the department will then be streamed to the most appropriate service for their care needs following this assessment.
Manage the co-ordination and timely assessment of all ambulatory patients attending the department during the operating hours, ensuring safe and timely assessment and progress of patient through their journey of care, streaming them to either the emergency department or the GP service on site.
Accurately assess the patient and interpret any clinical signs to allow a rapid decision as to which destination will best address the patients' health needs and ensure accurate document of this process.
Ensure our patients receive high standards of care and good communication during the streaming process.
FLOOR COORDINATINGThis role provides strong nursing management within our Emergency Department. You will deliver quality and effective person-centred care by performing individual assessment of care needs, developing, implementing, and evaluating clinical treatment plans or pathways that meet the needs of the patient and their families/carers. The post holder will take direct day to day shift leader responsibility for the Emergency Department.
Main duties of the job
Manage the overarching co-ordination of the day-to-day operational activity across the ENP service, Resus, Majors, Rapid Assessment, Paediatric ED and Ambulatory Care to ensure safe and timely progress of patients through Emergency Department.
Facilitate the necessary processes to ensure timely placing of patients in the appropriate specialist bed.
Resolve any risk management issues promptly and feedback to the Unit Manager
Promote effective communication and interpersonal skills to act as link person between the departmental staff and Unit Manager, other Specialist medical staff within the Trust, and relevant external bodies (Out of Hours GPs, St John's Ambulance, Ambulance staff as well as the Divisional and Trust Management Teams
Use effective and efficient interpersonal skills, supporting junior staff and the wider ED team, liaising with senior staff as appropriate
Create and maintain a safe and welcoming environment for patients, visitors and staff
Network both internally and externally to promote the Emergency Department

Staff Car Parking on the West Suffolk Hospital Site is eligible for individuals working outside of the core hours, 07:00 18:30.
For individuals working within the core hours, the Trust offers parking off site at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, which is serviced by a regular shuttle bus to and from the Hospital. Details of the bus timetable can be found in the on-line starter pack on the West Suffolk Hospital website.
This parking restriction does not apply if an individual is required to work on a weekend or if they are required to complete on call duties within their role.
