Job summary

Could you help West Suffolk Hospital to deliver the best quality and safest care to our local community? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Exercise Instructor to join our forward-thinking Community Cardiac Rehabilitation Team, to contribute in the delivery of a high standard of holistic health care to patients within clinics, leisure centres and their own homes, by providing Cardiac Rehabilitation as part of the multi-disciplinary team.

This role can be offered as a developmental role and training can be provided for the right candidate who is keen to pursue an exciting and rewarding career in this evolving speciality.

STAFF CAR PARKING

Staff Car Parking on the West Suffolk Hospital Site is eligible for individuals working outside of the core hours, 07:00 - 18:30.

For individuals working within the core hours, the Trust offers parking off site at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, which is serviced by a regular shuttle bus to and from the Hospital. Details of the bus timetable can be found in the on-line starter pack on the West Suffolk Hospital website.

This parking restriction does not apply if an individual is required to work on a weekend or if they are required to complete "on call" duties within their role.

Main duties of the job

Cardiac rehabilitation service provides person-centred care that enables individuals to increase independence, improve health outcomes and reduce unnecessary admissions to hospital or long-term care. This is achieved through timely interventions, rehabilitation, and management of long-term conditions.

We are looking for a passionate and motivated Exercise Instructor who is keen to develop evidence-based knowledge to provide specialist clinical care in both cardiovascular disease and other cardiac conditions. The successful candidate will need assessment skills to initiate clinical treatments, provide education and appropriately refer onward to our health and social care partners along with some voluntary sector services.

  • Support the delivery, of the county wide model of individualised cardiac rehabilitation programmes, adapting their exercise prescriptions to meet individual needs.
  • Work in partnership with the specialist nurses and exercise instructors in supporting patients to achieve their tailor made, person centred goals reviewing and adjusting accordingly.
  • To help with the delivery of the physical activity component of the programme.
  • To assist with sub-maximal exercise assessments for a range of cardiac conditions.

  • To visit patients in their own home and in clinic settings working without direct supervision on occasion and reporting any clinical findings to the specialist nursing team.

  • Maintain equipment and resources, required to support physical activity programmes.
  • Participate in the effective reporting of feedback, incidents and complaints. This includes submission of appropriate documentation to facilitate the investigation process.

  • BACPR Specialist Exercise Instructor Level 4 Cardiac qualification
