Rehabilitation Assistant

(Band 2 progressing to Band 3 on completion of a L3 qualification and/or required competencies)

Permanent 22.5hours per week

If you answer yes to these questions, we are recruiting a part time Rehabilitation Assistant to manage our equipment and supplies to assist our patients live their lives as independently as possible.

You will be required to work alongside and support the therapists to gain knowledge of the equipment issuing processes, taking deliveries and recording requests on the information technology systems. Stocktake and monitoring of equipment is required within role. In addition, there will be a requirement to undertake some general duties to promote the smooth running of our department. Good communication skills, an ambitious outlook, and a desire to work with people are essential.

Main duties of the job

You will need to be able to work in a busy team environment, ensuring stock levels of patient equipment and supplies are available. Communication is needed with the teams when equipment or supplies are in short supply. You will lead the stocktake sessions with the equipment providers, and be very organised and systematic in your approach. You will have a caring nature who enjoy helping others. You will demonstrate good communication skills and be educated to a GCSE level or equivalent.

We are a friendly and forward-thinking integrated therapy service with a well-developed appraisal system and supportive staff. Training and development are supported and encouraged to achieve Level 3 qualification with specific competencies.

The post available covers the core hours during the working week. There is flexibility in start and finish times.

Job Summary

  • To assist the acute therapy teams by managing the patient equipment deliveries, replacing stock orders, and leading on the stocktake sessions.
  • To train new staff and provide refresher sessions to inform of the processes involved when booking equipment out from peripheral stores, or for delivery.
  • To oversee the maintenance of the department moving and handling equipment, and ensure adequate supplies and stock are available.
  • To communicate effectively with staff members of upcoming stocktakes or stock shortages that may affect the therapists practice, or the discharge of patients.
  • To contribute the safety of the working environment with the storage and accessibility of equipment for the therapists.
  • To order hand therapy supplies, ensuring the stock available is at the required level.
  • To assist the management of the therapy pool cares allocated to therapies as part of a wider team.

Job Responsibilities

Clinical

  • The postholder will be required to work autonomously to manage the deliveries and collections of patient related equipment.
  • To work without direct supervision, making decisions on equipment storge that ensures staff have safe accessibility.
  • To maintain close contact with therapy team leads and professional leads where issues may need to be escalated regarding equipment.
  • To maintain close contact with the admin team for issues regarding the therapy pool cars.
  • To communicate effectively with staff relating to stock shortages or upcoming stocktakes.
  • To be responsible for using the appropriate IT systems for ordering equipment and supplies.
  • To lead on the stocktake sessions and communicate the equipment losses incurred to the therapy teams by email.
  • To check and order hand therapy supplies to ensure the stock is available to meet clinical usage and patient needs.
  • To ensure all equipment is clean, safe and available for use in the department. To assist qualified therapists in the provision of equipment for patients.
  • To take measures to prevent spread of infection, such as wiping down/disinfecting equipment and surfaces.
  • To have the knowledge and skills needed of the safe use and handling of the equipment and be able to advise others of the working functions of the equipment items.
  • To have flexible approach to working hours when requested, in response to the needs of service.
  • To work throughout the clinical specialities both in inpatients and outpatients and within the community setting according to the needs of the service.

  • To order and issue patient equipment at the request of therapy staff, alongside placing the bulk orders for the peripheral store.
  • To report any equipment in need of repair promptly by following guidelines. Unsafe equipment must also be reported to the team leads or professional leads.
  • To order and issue departmental equipment and supplies at the request of therapy staff, liaising with suppliers / stores / purchasing, ensuring safe storage.
  • To adhere to the Trust procedure on incident reporting.
