The West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust requires an Assistant Head Cook to join a dedicated Catering Team based at West Suffolk Hospital.
The Catering Department opens 365 days a year therefore we are looking for individuals who can work hours as below:
The hours are inclusive of alternate weekends and start between the hours of 6.30am- 2.30pm and 11.00am - 7.00pm for 5 days per week days with enhancements for weekends and bank holidays.
Duties will include production of patient and staff meals, in the busy Catering Department. Serving Staff and Visitors in our Time Out Dining Room and Courtyard Caf. Supervising a Team of Cooks during their daily tasks.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate good customer care and communication skills, with the ability to work alone and as part of a team, whilst maintaining a high level of attention to detail. The ability to remain calm under pressure is vital in this busy working environment.
A good knowledge of hygiene principles and literacy/numeracy skills will be essential for this role.
Main duties of the job
- To be jointly responsible for the supervision and efficient organisation of the food production team.
- To line manage the Kitchen Portering Team
- To plan Rosters and staff accordance with safe staffing levels and workloads.
- Maintain records of attendance, input overtime on the Trusts Health Roster System.
- To ensure that hygiene, food safety, food quality standards and safe working practices are adhered to within designated sections.
- To work as part of a team providing a safe, high quality catering service for the Trust.
- To prepare and serve high quality nutritious food in accordance with the departments standard recipes, using fresh ingredients.
- To be able to maintain prolonged concentration when preparing and cooking serval different dishes in a busy and pressured environment while supervising others.

Duties will include cooking to set recipes, serving patient meals, washing up and cleaning equipment in the busy Catering Department. Serving Staff and Visitors in our White Lodge Restaurant.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate good customer care and communication skills, with the ability to work alone and as part of a team, whilst maintaining a high level of attention to detail and food hygiene. The ability to remain calm under pressure is vital in this busy working environment.
