Job summary
School Aged Complex Needs Band 7 SLT: We have an exciting opportunity to join
our team of special school therapists for 15 hours per week. This year-round
role is based at Riverwalk School, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk for pupils aged
3-19 with severe, profound and complex learning needs, as well as covering a small
cohort of children not in school; and providing support during the school
holidays as appropriate. It would be possible to work this role as a TTO contract.
As a Band 7 you
would hold your own caseload, share leadership for the schools SaLT team; manage
caseloads, supervise staff & help develop the service. There is a small
dysphagia caseload for candidates with experience and a wide range of
communication needs and abilities.
Part of the
countywide community service the school aged complex needs pathway includes 6 special
schools and support childrens communication/eating and drinking needs to ensure
they make the best possible progress in relation to the outcomes in their EHCPs.

Main duties of the job
Take a lead therapist role (for own work & others in the team):
Manage caseloads & deliver provision for students with a range of
speech, language, communication, and eating and drinking needs including the use
of AAC in class
Evaluate/update EHCP targets, write Annual Review reports
Ensure a holistic approach through liaison with families, health
professionals & school staff
Manage expectations & matters arising e.g. compliments / complaints
Deliver & evaluate (virtual) training packages (school/home),
develop new packages as needed
Update /inform & upskill families & carers to create effective
partnerships
Safeguard students, support other staff to do so
Keep accurate & timely records to a high standard using SystmOne
Use therapy outcome measures
Develop staff & SLT students, including 1 to 1s & appraisals
Support/generate wider service development projects
Collect, analyse & disseminate service data as required
Promote team-work & best
practice within the school, pathway & service level.
Maintain high levels of
reflective practice & keep clinical skills up to date through CPD
Attend/participate in team
meetings
Deputise for Pathway Lead as required
