Rehabilitation Assistant
(Band 2 progressing to Band 3 on
completion of a L3 qualification and/or required competencies)
Fixed Term Contract 1 Year - 37.5hours per week or part time considered
An exciting opportunity has
arisen for a Band 2/3 Rehabilitation assistant to support both Occupational and
Physiotherapy on our highly rated acute Stroke ward at the West Suffolk
Hospital.
As this is an acute role it
will be ward based and you will experience a variety of patients and conditions
day to day.
We are a friendly team and
work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team to get the best outcomes for
our patients.
We provide in-house training
and development opportunities for all staff and view this as a priority.
Main duties of the job
You will independently implement treatment
programmes prescribed by a therapist to enable stroke survivors recovery.
You will work jointly with the physiotherapists
to support the rehabilitation of more complex patients.
You will complete a wide range of daily living
and activity based tasks to support the occupational therapists.
You should be able to take direction from a
variety of healthcare professionals.
Organisational skills, time management and
flexibility are crucial in this environment.
We provide a 7 day service so the ability to
work weekends will be required.
Advanced communication skills will be necessary
due to the patient group and fast pace of the environment.
Keep the therapy rooms tidy, presentable and
ready for use.
Some of the duties required will include using
manual handling equipment and good stroke positioning, applying and remove
splints, functional practices in the bathroom and kitchen. Undertaking exercise programmes for weak
limbs and group work.

duties in a range of locations as required.
To work independently on a one-to-one basis with patients to encourage
independence under the guidance of qualified therapists.
To organise and regulate the day to day use of pool and hire vehicles
allocated to Integrated Therapies
To organise and regulate the up-keep of equipment, stocks and working
environment as required.
To communicate effectively with qualified therapists and other team

Clinical
The post holder will be required to work alongside
qualified therapists in order to assist with treatment of patients. The post holder
may also be required to work independently under the guidance of a qualified
therapist.
To assist the therapist inpatient rehabilitation
on a daily basis, utilising a range of skills, such as practising exercises,
transfers, personal and domestic activities of daily living, assisting with
mobility, therapeutic handling etc. To assist in maintaining patient safety at
all times.
To use initiative and common sense, being aware of
changes in patients well-being and responses to treatment. To report back
patient progress to the treating therapist.
To implement therapy treatment plans, progressing
patient independence under the guidance of a qualified therapist.
To treat patients on an individual basis or within
a group setting as requested.
To motivate patients to regain and/or maintain
their independence.
To communicate effectively with patients,
relatives and carers regarding patient treatment, considering patient
confidentiality. This may include
communicating with patients with barriers to understanding such as deafness,
dementia, acute confusion, mental health conditions etc.
To assist in the treatment and reassurance of patients with a range of
distressing physical and psychological conditions.
To feedback to other staff (e.g. nurses, other therapists) regarding
patient care and treatment, as instructed by a qualified therapist.
To be responsible for documenting your intervention in the appropriate
patient records following treatment. To input statistical data regarding
patient contacts.
To ensure all equipment is clean, safe and available for use in the
department. To assist qualified therapists in the provision of equipment for
patients and advising on its safe use.
To take measures to prevent spread of infection, such as wiping
down/disinfecting equipment and surfaces.
To participate in 7 day working, extended weekday working hours and
weekend rotas as required by the service
To work flexible hours when requested, in response to the needs of the
service.
To work throughout the clinical specialities both
in inpatients and outpatients and also within a community setting, as the needs
of the service dictate.
