We are looking for an passionate and self-motivated
Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to join our Wheelchair Service team,
to work alongside our Occupational Therapists and Rehabilitation Engineering
colleagues. This is a unique role, which would be suitable for career
progression, allowing development of skills in this specialism.

Main duties of the job
Based in a community setting in Ipswich and Bury St
Edmunds. You will be providing
assessment, reassessment, and handover of a wide range of wheelchair seating,
cushions, and accessories. This will include manual and power wheelchairs,
specialist buggies and seating systems.
Assessments will be undertaken in clinic and in a variety of
community venues, so the ability to travel to rural locations is essential.
We work with children from 3 years old and adults with
neurological, medical and orthopaedic and surgical conditions, with varying
complexity. Previous experience of working with adults and /or children with
physical and learning disabilities is desirable, specific wheelchair skills and
knowledge will be provided.

To provide specialist assessment
relating to mobility and function in cases of varying complexity. Assessments will be undertaken at a
wheelchair clinic, patients home, hospital, specialist and mainstream schools
or any other appropriate community location.
To determine clinical diagnosis and
treatment of complex and highly complex postural needs such as prevention of
contractures, correction of deformities and other associated health problems,
through the use of special seating systems.
To be responsible, in conjunction
with other members of the multi-disciplinary team or as a lone worker, for
prescribing appropriate equipment from a wide range of options manual and
powered wheelchairs, accessories and pressure relieving cushions.
To be active in the prevention and /
or treatment of pressure ulcers through the prescription of appropriate seating
and / or cushioning, and the provision of specialist advice to patients, carers
and other professionals
To take an active role in the
training and accreditation of qualified Occupational Therapists and
Physiotherapists at post-graduate level to prescribe basic wheelchair
equipment.
To provide specialist advice and
support to colleagues referring to the service.
