Job summary

Are you an NMC registered nurse or HCPC Registered ODP looking to train in a new specialty?

We are looking to appoint a full-time/part time ambitious, multitasker and organized individual to our growing JAG accredited Endoscopy Unit.

The successful candidate should be pro-active in ensuring high quality, evidence-based care and able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Candidates must be self-motivated, independent, have a flexible approach and ambitious with a willingness to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Applicants should be keen to learn and develop in a variety of endoscopic procedures including Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, Cystoscopy, Bronchoscopy and ERCP.

You will be given the opportunity to further your skills, and CPD and e-portfolio is actively supported.

This is an excellent opportunity for a fascinating job working in a very modern and progressive JAG accredited unit.

Main duties of the job

Candidates will be involved with patient admission/discharge, recovery, decontamination and assisting endoscopists with a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic investigations; including gastro-intestinal, urological, and respiratory endoscopic procedures. More complex procedures such as ERCP are also carried out.

Candidates will follow care pathways for patients undergoing endoscopy procedures ensuring pre, peri and post care is carried out to the highest standards and following NMC Code of Conduct and all Endoscopy Policies and Protocols.

Candidates will also be trained in the decontamination, maintenance and safe handling of equipment

JOB PURPOSE:

Staff Nurses are responsible for the delivery of care and the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of individual programmes of care. They are expected to take delegated responsibility in a given shift for a group of patients.

With experience, they may be expected to take charge of the Unit in the absence of the Sister/Charge Nurse. Following training, they will also be expected to participate in the out-of-hours On-call rota for the Endoscopy Unit.

There will be a variety of shifts, some evenings and Saturday working, to meet Trust and Government targets.

NOTE: This job description outlines the Trusts expectation of an experienced Band 5 nurse. Nurses will not be expected to fulfil the tasks marked with * until they have moved through the foundation gateway and are progressing towards the full KSF and Endoscopy Competencies.

KEY TASKS

1. LEADING/MANAGING CARE (Within delegated responsibilities for a group of patients)

1.1 Assesses nursing care to be delivered. Plans, prioritises and supervises care within allocated time frame.

Delegate activities to team members appropriately

1.2 Organises and deploys staff according to workload, ensuring appropriate staff cover and reporting

any deficiencies to Ward/Clinical Manager.

1.3 *Supervises the delivery of care to maintain agreed standards

1.4 Identifies problems and risks, decides on appropriate actions via a structured approach and reports promptly to other staff on matters requiring their input

1.5 Works collaboratively with the inter-professional team and other staff on the ward/department

and with increasing experience coordinates care given by the inter- professional team

maintenance and storage of equipment.

1.8 Reviews and evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care for area of responsibility for the shift.

Delivers clear, concise records and handover.

1.10 Manages own time and responds to unexpected demands in a professional manner.

2. DELIVERY OF CARE

2.1 Carries out the assessment of patients identifying nursing problems and needs in partnership with the patient, and with appropriate members of the inter-professional team

2.2 Assesses risks to patients which need to be managed in relation to their health and well-being within scope of nursing practice

2.3 To plan, implement and evaluate individual programmes of care for patients and with increasing experience uses an holistic approach and an evidence based approach,

2.4 Ensures that skilled care is given to patients and that all drugs and treatments are administered as prescribed

2.5 Ensures the maintenance of accurate clinical observations of patients condition

2.6 Ensures the significance of data relating to patients condition and progress is interpreted and acted on
