Job summary
We are looking for experienced Band 5 Staff Nurse to join the Emergency Department, to support a wide range of shifts.
WSH Emergency department have recently undertaken a major expansion project and we now have our own Majors Assessment Area. This together with a Rapid Assessment Area means we can ensure we meet all our patients needs and ensure optimised service delivery. It doesnt stop here! We have a dedicated and enthusiastic ED work force that includes Acute Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) and Emergency Nurse Practitioners (ENPs) who can see, treat and discharge their own patients, assisting the medical ED team in delivering excellent care.
The post holder will prioritise, assess, plan, evaluate and deliver all relevant aspects of care to an agreed and expected high standard. Work closely with the multi-disciplinary team and contribute to the clinical governance process. Act as a mentor/preceptor to junior staff, with specific responsibility for pre-registration students. Participate fully in a structured competency based programmes, as required while working in all areas of the Emergency Department.
Following a CQC inspection in 2019, our Emergency Department received an overall rating of Good. We are passionate supporters of our nursing team at every grade, but recognise the unique skills and experience that our Band 6 staff bring to the team. As our ideal candidate you must have a strong desire to deliver high quality ED nursing care as part of a motivated team.
Main duties of the job
What will be your main responsibilities? The role will involve, but not be limited to you performing the following:
Take overall responsibility for a number of patients and safe effective management of the clinical area on a shift-by-shift basis as delegated by the Ward Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
On a shift-by-shift basis, be responsible for the delivery clinical expertise in all aspects of patient care in the relevant clinical setting
Ensure that patient documentation is accurate and defensible in accordance with Trust and NMC policies, disseminating all relevant changes in the patients condition to the MDT
Undertake, perform and assess enhanced skills within the clinical area, to improve the patient experience and journey (i.e. venepuncture, cannulation, etc)
Be competent in the correct use of all equipment used in the clinical setting in accordance with instructions and department procedures, reporting any faults as necessary.
Be actively involved in all aspects of admission and discharge process
Act as a support to the Senior Sister/ Charge Nurse and deputise when necessary to ensure continuity of the delivery of a high standard of care.
Perform nurse led pre-assessment for client group as part of the multi skilled practitioner role within the department.
