Job summary

Applicants are invited for a Consultant Hip surgeon with a special interest in revision surgery and peri-prosthetic fractures. This post is to replace a substantive consultant who is leaving the trust. The post is a 12-month fixed term appointment.

The Department would like to appoint a surgeon who has a broad ability in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery but with a special interest and expertise in Primary and Revision hip arthroplasty, and ideally periprosthetic fracture management.

Main duties of the job

Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the provision of Trauma and Orthopaedic services

To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Trauma and Orthopaedic Department

Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students, para-medical practitioners.

To participate actively in both Departmental and Trust Clinical Governance and Audit.

To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME), appraisal and revalidation.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC and licence to practise.
  • FRCS orth. or Success in appropriate overseas Specialty examination

Desirable

  • ATLS Provider
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register for Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery and hold a licence to practise or be eligible for entry on the Register (within six months of completion of Certificate of Completion of Training) at time of interview

Clinical Expertise

Essential

  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • A wide experience of orthopaedic and trauma surgery
  • Expertise in most if not all aspects of hip surgery.

Desirable

  • Six years supervised training in an appropriate SpR level training programme
  • Fellowship level experience in hip surgery
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Trauma and Orthopaedics

Management and Administrative Experience

Essential

  • Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service
  • Ability to organise and manage out patient priorities, waiting lists and operating lists
  • Ability to manage and lead surgical firm
  • Experience of audit management
  • Ability and willingness to work within the Trust and NHS performance framework and targets
