Main duties of the job
- As a nursing assistant you will provide invaluable support to ward teams and help with direct patient care, which might include:
- Measuring and observing the physical characteristics/condition of patients, including temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, peak flows and weight
- Assisting patients with the maintenance of their personal and oral hygiene, including washing/bathing, mouth and dental care, hair-washing, nail care, shaving and dressing/undressing
- Assisting patients to eat and drink as per their care plan, identifying, recording and reporting abnormal dietary and fluid intake
- Assisting patients with mobility, using safe manual handling techniques
- Assisting patients to use toilet facilities.

beds and is a partner teaching hospital of the University of Cambridge.

and paediatric community services, provided in collaboration with West Suffolk
Alliance partners, include a range of nursing, therapy, specialist, and ongoing
temporary care and rehabilitation, some at our Newmarket Community Hospital.

INFORMATION DAY
As part of your application, if successful you will be required to attend our information day. All candidates selected for the information day will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of the Trust values. Further information can be found on the West Suffolk Hospital website.
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to attend a the information day, alongside up to approximately 15 other candidates. It will be coordinated by members of the HR Team as well as a number of Ward Managers and Sisters/Charge Nurses from various departments across the Trust. We will be recruiting to several vacancies within the Trust - shortlisted candidates will be required to take part in a number of different activities including working independently and in larger groups. There will also be a one-to-one section of the interview offered.
Care Certificate
If you are successful at interview and pass pre-employment checks you will be required to take part in an intensive induction programme in order to achieve the required competencies for the Care Certificate. Initial training will take place over a four-week period and you will be expected to attend all study days and training sessions.
It is an expectation that you will achieve the Care Certificate within the first twelve weeks of your employment with the Trust. If you are successful and employed on a part-time contract, it may be necessary to work additional hours during the first twelve weeks of your employment in order to meet the requirements of the Care Certificate. All applicants must be fully committed and attend all training dates during the initial four-week timeframe.
Further information on the Care Certificate will be provided to shortlisted candidates as part of the Group Interview process.
