Mental Health Clinical Specialist

Job summary

The Mental Health Clinical Specialist role is to support children and young people in a mental health crisis within the James Paget University Hospital. The role closely links with the paediatric consultants, ward and A&E staff as well as our external NSFT colleagues to ensure safe and effective care.

Main duties of the job

To provide risk assessments / care plans and support to the CYP within the JPUH. to develop guidelines by working alongside the MDT. to have a sound understanding of the mental health act assessment and knowledge of how and when this needs to be applied. to link in with the adult liaison team and NSFT.

Education and Qulifications

Essential

  • oRegistered Mental Health Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC register or Registered Practitioner/Social Worker
  • oManagement/team leading qualification
  • oEvidence of continuing professional development and maintenance of a personal professional file

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • oMinimum 3 years post registration experience o
  • oSignificant experience at Band 6 level, of which some is to be in a position relevant to the specialty (children and young people)
  • oKnowledge of current developments in health care
  • oExperience of taking a lead role in change management/ development of new projects
  • oExperience in managing a caseload with individuals 16 and under
  • oSignificant experience in assessing, reviewing and managing complex cases of children with a mental health disorder
  • oExperience of leading in clinical audits
  • oWillingness to develop IT skills as appropriate to the role

Desirable

  • oPrevious experience at band 7 level in the relevant speciality (children and young people)
  • oWillingness to further develop knowledge and skills
