Job summary

This position is for the Head of the Xray department within Radiology- this covers Xray, fluoroscopy, DEXA , mobile imaging, reporting radiographers, student education and x-ray in the CDC .

It is a position which requires excellent leadership and engagement skills with modality staff and external stakeholders , as well as general management skills and clinical expertise.

We are currently working as a speciality clinical network across Norfolk and Waveney trusts where engagement and collaboration is essential. We are also working towards accreditation in our CDC.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for providing managerial and clinical leadership within the X-ray department. This role involves coordinating and managing a comprehensive service across all sites associated with the James Paget.

They will be responsible for the delivery of a professional, high quality, flexible and effective service at all times- Taking responsibility for all general management functions including budget holding, recruitment, appraisal, training and competency.

Participation and compliance will be required with the Governance procedures for the Department including Risk Management, Health and Safety, Research and Audit activities.

The post holder will work closely with Consultant Radiologists, the senior team and the Imaging service manager to review and revise techniques, implement optimised protocols and be responsible for changes in practice to improve the service. The units will constantly strive to be compliant with IRMER, IRR legislation and National recommendations. This involves working closely and cooperatively with the other imaging HODs to work towards accreditation standards.

They will be expected to comply with all Trust and Directorate policies and be responsible for the management and deployment of resources (pay and non-pay) ensuring that the highest standards are delivered within the resources available to the department.

15. Use data to analyse the capacity required for service needs and ensure any concerns around establishment are acted on

16. To be responsible for ensuring rotas are produced and signed off according to trust policy. Staffing levels should be safe and any issues with achieving this should be escalated and managed. The rota should reflect department needs to maximise safe and effective clinical lists to maximise equipment capacity.

17. Encourage and enable staff to report all adverse incidents and be responsible for investigating these and implementing /sharing learning.
