Job summary
As a Diabetic Nurse Specialist at the James Paget Hospital, you will provide specialist care and education to patients with diabetes. The team oversee both inpatients and outpatients. You will be joining a motivated team that covers both inpatient and outpatient care.
Main duties of the job
To contribute to the work of the Diabetes Specialist Nursing Service in providing clinical support and advice for patients, carers and other healthcare professionals.
To educate patients and family/carers in an understanding of diabetes and the treatment and management of diabetes and its complications.
To be an active member of the diabetic team and the wider professional agencies which are involved in the provision of diabetes services within the HealthEast CCG area.
To promote standards of care and practice in line with Trust Policies and Guidelines.
To assist in the maintenance and development of systems and strategies to promote and enhance the delivery of care to the patient group.
To actively engage in promoting the best standards of clinical care and cost-effective delivery of that care including medicines management and resource utilisation.

Essential
- Registered nurse
- Previous experience of being a diabetic specialist nurse
- Qualification or accredited educational achievement related to diabetes
- Evidence of ongoing professional development

- Advanced Nurse Practitioner
Expereince and Knowledge
Essential
- Post registration experience and a minimum of 2 years recent experience within diabetic chronic disease and long term Disease management
- Detailed clinical knowledge base within diabetic chronic disease management
- Experience of leading/directing individuals
- Experience in patient education
Desirable
- Experience of insulin delivery systems
- Knowledge of local practice and systems
- Willingness to adapt practice to meet demands of a dynamic service
