Job summary

The James Paget University Hospital is seeking to appoint a ConsultantOphthalmologist with specialist interest in Glaucoma, as a replacement post. The Consultant will have responsibility for providing a specialist glaucoma and comprehensive ophthalmic service in conjunction with their consultant colleagues. We are dedicated to providing high quality care for the population of South East Norfolk and North East Suffolk. The post is based at the James Paget Hospital, with outreach clinics at Beccles, as outlined in the job plan (see above).

The position provides an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified specialist to actively contribute to the further development of a modern Ophthalmology service within this highly regarded Trust, with its wide range of acute and community services, which will afford high professional visibility. The successful candidate will have a firstclass opportunity to build a strong reputation as an Ophthalmologist.

Main duties of the job

The Department

The outpatient department is run by Sister Julie Mitchell / Sister Louise Nunney and is well-equipped, with:

  • Nine consulting rooms, each containing standard ophthalmic instruments
  • Two orthoptic rooms
  • Photographic room
  • Laser treatment room
  • Visual field examination room
  • Treatment room.

Also available in the department are:-

  • Humphrey (x4) VF analyzers.
  • Ellex pattern frequency doubled Nd:YAG laser, Ellex Nd:YAG laser, and SLT laser
  • A and B Ultrasound standardized echography
  • Zeiss IOLmaster biometry (x2)
  • Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue test
  • Digital Retinal camera(KOWA) and wide-field OPTOS Camera
  • HRA2 Fluorescein, ICG and Autofluorescence camera
  • Digital Anterior segment camera
  • Topcon 3-D OCT
  • Spectralis OCT MACHINES 4 at JPUH site AND 1 OCTA Angiography system at Beccles.

About us

The Trust provides comprehensive acute care for the population of Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and the South Waveney area and for many visitors to the area.
