Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a vacancy for a Band 6 (B6) Alcohol Nurse to join our Gastroenterology Department to be part of the Alcohol Care Team at James Paget University Hospitals.
This is a fantastic opportunity for any registered nurse to gain 6 months experience working within the field of addiction. Many of our patients with alcohol dependency or harmful drinking will either be seen and assessed in the Emergency Department or on the wards, and we are even happy to assess patients in Outpatient Clinics. Many of you nurses will have experienced some contact with our alcohol dependent patients and could be curious as to why our patients present the way they do and what does the Alcohol Care Team do with our patients. The patients we assess and support are quite a variety of backgrounds and ages.
Main duties of the job
The role of the B6 Alcohol Care Team Sister/Charge Nurse is lengthy but here are a few: to assess patients around their alcohol use and other associated conditions of harmful/dependent alcohol use, advise doctors and other staff of a safe detox regime, along with other possible interventions required, for example if a patient is Thiamine deficient; provide motivational interviewing and brief advice intervention; exploring abstinence options and liaising with other services, either in-patient or community and referring to these services, if required.
About us
Working across the Trust where there is a real supportive and inclusive ethos and sense of community we are seeking an Alcohol Nurse to support with the patients journey and to support with the development the Trust's Integrated Alcohol service.
