Job summary

The Physician Associate works alongside the medical team. They assess and examine patients, present them, initiate and interpret investigations, and recommend treatment. They liaise with other professionals and specialities as required and complete necessary documentation relating to their patients.

Main duties of the job

The James Paget Hospital is seeking to appoint a Physician Associate within the Division of General Medicine in Gastroenterology. This position provides an excellent opportunity for a suitably qualified Physician Associate to actively contribute to the further development of a modern Medical service. The Trust is a highly regarded hospital with its wide range of acute and community services, which will afford high professional visibility.

The post holder will recognise the importance of the multidisciplinary team in delivering urgent and elective care within a very busy general hospital setting, reviewing patients . The post holder will be accountable for ensuring that patient care is of a high standard at all times and that standards of care and treatment meet the department's requirements. The post holder will be expected to be an excellent role model and ambassador for Physician Associates.

There will be dedicated time spent with the hepatology team to enable the delivery of hepatology clinics and time to deliver the clinical support required when managing patients with liver disease.

  • Degree at 2:2 level or above
  • PG Diploma in Physician Associate Studies from a UK PA programme
  • Current and valid certification or recertification by the UK Physician Associate National Examination
  • Member of the Faculty of Physician Associates at the RCP, which includes registration on the UK Physician Associate Register (the PA Managed Voluntary Register)
  • Current and valid certification with the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Member of the Faculty of Physician Associates at the RCP, which includes registration on the UK Physician Associate Register (the PA Managed Voluntary Register)
