Job summary

Within the Pharmacy at Peterborough City Hospital, we have an opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our committed and friendly Manufacturing Team in Pharmacy.

The Pharmacy department provides an excellent working environment and utilises progressive systems in order to deliver its services. The department employs robotic dispensing, ward-based clinical pharmacy, pharmacist led clinics and independent pharmacist prescribing to respond dynamically to the needs of the hospital and its patients.

Our Manufacturing Unit provides aseptically prepared products to the Trust's Haematology/Oncology Units serving both Peterborough City and Hinchingbrooke Hospitals.

Main duties of the job

As a Pharmacy Support Worker within Manufacturing you'll be preparing chemotherapy products during the manufacturing process, dispensing readymade products and maintaining stock for the manufacturing unit. You could also be supporting our Dispensary Team in Cancer services and wider Pharmacy colleagues.

Ideally you will have good written, numeracy and verbal communication skills. You will also need to be proficient in using computers as most of our work is generated from electronic systems.

Ideally you will already be qualified to Level 2 in a Pharmacy course but if not then we can offer this post as a Band 2 with a career progression to Band 3 after successful completion of the Level 2 in Pharmacy Assistants in Manufacturing course (Buttercups), and the specific requirements, competencies and validations required of a Band 3.

The successful candidate will also participate in the departments Saturday/Sunday/Bank holiday rotation through the dispensary/stores areas.

To assist the Chief Pharmacist in providing comprehensive specialist pharmaceutical care and medicines management by the provision of safe, appropriate and effective clinical pharmacy services within the North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, and areas supplied under Service Level Agreements, ensuring compliance with current medicines legislation.

To assist the Principal Technician SACT, PN & Manufacturing, or Designated deputy in the smooth running of the manufacturing units according to Guide to Good Manufacturing Practice and MHRA guidelines.

Participate in the accurate and timely dispensing and supply of medications

Band 3 experience will be met when operator has completed all the objectives that are set within the Trusts aseptic training manual and has been successfully validated to perform aseptic manipulations allowing them to produce aseptic products. The operator must also have completed the Level 2 for Pharmacy Assistants in Manufacturing course (Buttercups training) and been validated in the In-process checking for aseptic manufacturing.
