As a Specialty Doctor, you will be an essential member of the middle-grade team who will participate in on-call duties (1:5 paediatric trainees) and be involved in all aspects of undergraduate and postgraduate education and training.

Research and development are important to us. You will demonstrate dedication and enthusiasm for continuing professional development and research, and you will be strongly encouraged to actively participate in our research studies.

Main duties of the job

The Speciality Doctor's duties vary from performing clinical responsibilities for paediatric inpatients, to providing SCBU and neonatal care for at-risk deliveries. Together with the consultant and junior trainees, you will manage the provision of care to the children in the assessment area and in the children's ward.

Your duties will extend to the A&E department as well where you will support the staff and the GPs in delivering out-of-hours care. In addition, you will participate in the rapid referral clinic and take part in sub-specialty clinics.

You will participate in the teaching and examination/assessment of medical students from Cambridge University and paediatric trainees doing all aspects of the MRCPCH examination.

You will participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) following the specifications laid down by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
