Job summary

The Trust has an exciting opportunity for Trust Doctors to join our Emergency Medicine Team.

The postholder will undertake normal duties in this grade and specialty and will be an integral part of this friendly, efficient and ambitious department.

The postholder will be required to work closely with department seniors and be able to communicate with patients and all levels of staff.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities include:

"Shop floor" work assessing and managing Emergency patients efficiently within prescribed timeframes to minimise harm and risk within the department.

To work effectively within the departmental team and communicate well with patients, General Practitioners and hospital colleagues.

To participate in all pillars of clinical governance, using audit findings to improve the quality of treatment and to minimise clinical risk.

To communicate and work closely with the departmental seniors at all times.

Support at the level of Middle Grade or Consultant is available throughout the day and night.

The successful applicant will be encouraged to attend appropriate conferences and courses. The ability to work within a team and communicate effectively with patients, GPs and hospital colleagues is essential.

Educational support is provided to all junior medical staff, whether in established training grades or not. A weekly educational programme takes place within the department, including a monthly simulation practice session, and there is an opportunity to present interesting cases for the learning of all. Study Leave is also available and encouraged for life support courses.

Clinical Governance meetings occur three monthly. Audit topics are available if required, but we support and encourage individual audits.

We also support individual training needs by means of an allocated Educational Supervisor and aim to support applicants in obtaining other specialty experience before embarking on their continued career. We have a good record for Trust Grade doctors entering training after a period of time working in the department in Peterborough.
