Job summary

Have you considered pursuing a career in Emergency Medicine with a specialist interest in Medical Education, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level?

This is an excellent opportunity for you to join the Medical Education Team at Peterborough City Hospital on a full-time fixed term basis from August 2024 for a period of 12 months.

At North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, we are providing undergraduate medical and surgical clinical teaching to medical students from the University of Leicester, School of Medicine (Year 3 ward-based apprenticeships to Year 5 clinical assistantships and including Year 4 specialty blocks) and the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine (Year 4 Core Clinical Method placements through to Year 6 Senior Placements.

As our new Clinical Teaching Fellow, you will be involved in coordinating and delivering the Trust's undergraduate clinical teaching programme (ten sessions per week per annual average) within the Emergency Medicine Department at Peterborough City Hospital.

Teaching is provided in a variety of clinical settings, and you will undertake ten fixed sessions per week working with undergraduate medical students from both Cambridge and Leicester Medical Schools who are on formal placements in Emergency Medicine.

You will have completed a minimum of Foundation Training or equivalent. MRCS is desirable but not essential.

Main duties of the job

The main educational duties will be delivering structured clinical teaching sessions, including bedside teaching, seminars, and teaching clinics, as well as running formative exams including OSCE and single best answer (SBA). This will include three Saturday mornings per year for student assessments with time off in lieu.

You will be expected to participate in student induction sessions and assessment sessions along with consultants. You will be the main point of contact for all medical students in this particularly hard-pressed department.

Supervision of the posts will be divided between the Consultant in Emergency Medicine and the Director of Clinical Studies.

Locum opportunities are commonly available but can only be taken up as long as they do not impact on the educational service delivery.

It is expected that annual leave will be taken when students are not on placement to the Trust. If leave is taken during a student placement block a prospective cover will have to be agreed by the Medical Education Department.
