Job summary
The post holder will be the lead for the day to day management, evaluation and quality assurance of the newborn hearing screening programme including the provision of antenatal information, the screening procedure and any onwards referral.
The post holder must hold or be willing to work towards the national screening qualification (Level 3 Diploma for Health Screeners- Newborn Hearing).
To ensure the hearing screening programme is carried out as per national and local protocols and to write, review and update local protocols and procedures when necessary.
Liaise with the national NHSP team and to attend regular updates and training events provided by the national team.
To manage the team of newborn hearing screeners, undertaking sickness management, roster management, appraisals and be the named contact person for day to day activity within the team.
Main duties of the job
To act as the professional lead for the day-to-day management, evaluation and quality assurance (QA) of the screening process, including the provision of antenatal information, the screening procedures and any onward referral
To ensure that NHSP screening protocols and procedures are adhered to and to write, review and update local protocols and procedures as and when necessary.
To keep the screening team and local professional stakeholders informed about national developments.
To establish and maintain an organised working environment for the screening team working in maternity, special care or neonatal intensive care units and other settings.
To ensure that a high quality service is maintained to promote the principles of family friendly hearing services for babies.
To be able to develop and continually assess working patterns, including the management of shift rotas, to best meet the needs of the service to develop the team and carry out regular competency assessments in order to provide performance feedback and to assist in the identification of individual training needs, including annual completion of NHSP e-learning.
To act as a single point of contact for the local NHSP programme in relation to quality assurance and any resulting improvement plan
