Job summary

Are you an experienced physician with a passion deliver a comprehensive and integrated Corneal Ophthalmology service? Our Ophthalmology team is delighted to welcome you to join them on a full-time basis.

North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust is no ordinary NHS Trust. It has a reputation for dynamism, integration of clinicians in management, and high-quality patient care.

As a specialist Ophthalmology Consultant with an interest in Cornea you will demonstrate leadership in delivering and maintaining high standards of patient care while working closely with a multidisciplinary team.

As part of the comprehensive care service, you will attend outpatients' clinics as well as theatre sessions with additional cataract operating sessions available.

The Ophthalmology Department has shared community schemes, integration with optometrists, expanded roles for nurses and other non-medical health care professionals, and a high level of clinical research that has shaped improvements in the eye care nationally over many years. We firmly believe in investing in a strong IT infrastructure to develop innovative ways to meet capacity demands including virtual clinics.

We respect your wellbeing, and we are open to discuss flexibility in your working patterns.

Main duties of the job

The sessional commitments contain 10 programmed activities. In addition, you will be part of the 24 hours on-call service.

As a specialist Corneal Consultant, you will provide advice and support to Clinicians in other services with regard to patients who may have a combination of ocular problems.

You will be responsible for contributing to and coordinating the training of medical staff and hospital-based Optometrists.

You will have a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge and for the proper functioning of the service, allowing for all appropriate delegation to and training for your staff.

As a line manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of your clinics and must ensure that in/out-patient services are covered during your planned absences.
