Job summary

Our Estates and Facilities team is happy to offer an exciting opportunity to an experienced Sustainability Manager to join us at North West Anglia Foundation Trust. You will play a major role in implementing our green plan and transforming sustainability across the main three sites at Peterborough (including Peterborough City Hospital), Stamford & Rutland Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

The Trust has aspirations to become one of the most sustainable Trusts in the NHS and there is significant scope to improve our sustainability performance.

Main duties of the job

You will lead and provide expert knowledge on all aspects of environmental sustainability. This will require making judgments involving complex facts or a situation that relate to environmental sustainability - requiring analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options.

You will work with all areas of the Trust to ensure that we integrate sustainable development into our core business and ensure our use of resources is efficient. This will include, but not be limited to, operational, estates, procurement, human resources and finance colleagues.

You will drive transformational change in sustainability and Carbon emissions while adhering to our Trust Values and Behaviours.

You will maintain and develop the sustainability training for staff and stakeholders, as well as coordinate and deliver the training when required in order to develop a network of sustainability champions across the Trust.

Working with our ICS partner organisations, engage with and support a system wide approach to sustainability.

Support teams and departments that are undertaking projects to improve models of care to reduce environmental impact and carbon footprint, and ensure that outcomes are captured and reported.

The post holder will be required to take account of the skills required for activities such as planning or organising projects, reports, meetings, conferences.

Take account of the complexity and degree of uncertainty involved in these activities.

The post holder would be required to plan and organise a broad range of complex activities in relation to environmental sustainability that impact the Trust as an organisation.

To support patient and user-led involvement working groups and other groups as required.

Responsible for implementing the sustainable travel plan working with colleagues across operational services, human resources and staff side

Working alongside procurement colleagues ensure the development of a sustainable procurement approach across the Trust.

Responsible for sustainability reporting for the Trust.

Lead and develop sustainability including the development of a network of sustainability champions across the Trust.

Working across the Trust lead the development of the Green Plan which is signed off and owned at Board level.

Working with colleagues across the Trust develop an approach to best value and sustainable use of our resources is embedded into all of our transformation programmes moving forward.

Manage the delivery of stakeholder engagement activity in relation to environmental sustainability. This will include ensuring high performance across all programmes and working with communications colleagues to create awareness raising messaging, creating and maintaining a strong presence across social media channels, developing high quality intranet /web content.

Provide and contribute to reports for various management and board meetings. You will utilise a reporting dashboard for this purpose and ensure that information is up-to-date and accurate, ensuring that methods to report on impact across all areas are developed.

The post holder will be required to communicate highly complex information in relation to environmental sustainability both verbally and in writing and establish and maintain relationships and gain the cooperation of others.

  • Degree (or equivalent specialist knowledge) in a science, environmental or other relevant discipline.
  • Chartered Member of a relevant professional body such as IEMA
  • Sustainability/Waste/Energy/Facilities Management qualification
