Job summary

We are looking for a Less Than Full time Trust Registrar (60%) to join our Obstetrics and Gynaecology team at Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

Obstetrics

The enhanced & expanded maternity facilities at Hinchingbrooke have attracted many more women to deliver at our Maternity Unit and the result is that our Deliveries are now close to 5000 per annum. Huntingdon and the surrounding area has a diverse population with many high risk pregnancies.

Gynaecology

We have a busy gynaecology unit with multiple opportunities for surgical training. With 5 consultants undertaking total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH). We are a recognised endometriosis centre and have a large volume of urogynaecology work. We also undertake a significant volume of Oncology work. Our busy Early Pregnancy unit is combined with an Emergency Gynaecology Unit and is staffed by 4 specialist Consultants. Almost all of our consultants undertake transvaginal scanning and there is a comprehensive training programme for transvaginal scanning. We also provide Termination Services including late surgical termination until 18 weeks and Manual Vacuum Aspiration (MVA).

The post-holder will be required to participate in middle grade junior doctors on call rota along with other clinical activities according to current UK practice.

They will need to have experience in and be able to manage common Obstetric problems, including failure to progress in labour, secondary arrest of labour, induction of Labour, PET, sepsis, APH and PPH.

Main duties of the job

The posts will include a mixture of service and special interest. The special interests programme will be tailored to the individual needs of each applicant eg if the applicant was interested in Advanced Labour Ward practice then there would be proportionally more LW sessions rostered for that individual.

There will be very close liaison with the rota Co-ordinators.

Applicants who choose surgical special interests would be allocated a number of theatre sessions. Most clinics will be consultant supervised, but there may be the opportunity to have independent clinical sessions put on, by arrangement.
