We are in search of dedicated Consultants in Medical Oncology to specialise in Colorectal/HPB/AOS cancers to join our oncology team based at Peterborough City Hospital.
The historic City of Peterborough has been transformed by town development schemes bringing improvements in housing, education, and employment opportunities. By joining an inclusive and supportive multidisciplinary team, you will assist in providing systemic anti-cancer treatments for Colorectal and Hepato-pancreato-biliary cancers, and acute oncology service. We will accommodate any special interests.
You will join our nationally recognised research programmes and continue promoting Clinical Trial development and recruitment.

Main duties of the job
The job plan is anticipated to contain 10 programmed activities, 8.5 PA's of direct clinical care and 1.5 SPA's per week. The job plan may be reviewed after 3 months, and we are open to consider alternative job content on a personal basis.
You will participate to out-of-hours consultant rota comprising of telephone advice for Peterborough City Hospital on a 1:9 basis. There are currently 6 consultant clinical oncologists and 4 Consultant Medical Oncologists.
You will ensure the provision of a comprehensive Oncology service, in collaboration with other Oncologists, including inpatient care and referrals and outpatient referrals and treatment.
You will attend the weekly relevant multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and scheduling a weekly clinic on an alternate day/time to the existing clinics to enable patient choice and the workload to be shared. Monthly management and governance meetings attendance is required.
Professional supervision and training of junior medical staff is a must. You will contribute to the education of junior staff in the department and to act as clinical and educational supervisors. This may include a medical oncology SpR who are currently on rotation from CUH and under clinical supervision whilst in post.

Principal elements of the post will be:
- To work with NWAFT colleagues to strengthen existing Colorectal and HPB cancer services and to further develop AOS services.
- To develop the Trusts strategy in partnership with the chair of the Trusts multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings leads and to be an active participant in the Colorectal, & HPB cancers
- To offer support to the Acute Oncology service. There may be a provision to consider leading AOS service depending on the requirement.
- Provision of systemic anti-cancer treatment for patients with colorectal & HPB
- To develop and participate in collaborative initiatives, studies and trials regionally, nationally and internationally, having a high regard for clinical effectiveness and to the practice of evidence-based medicine.
- To collaborate with colleagues at the Regional Cancer Centre (Cambridge University Hospitals Foundation Trusts (CUH), Cancer Units and other agencies to ensure optimum quality of care for cancer patients including referring patients to the phase I trials unit at CUH.
- Provision of a comprehensive Oncology service, in collaboration with other Oncologists, including inpatient care and referrals and outpatient referrals and treatment. This post will enable additional consultant ward rounds to enable a consultant ward rounds to occur at PCH daily.
- Active participation in clinical audit, continuing professional development and research as appropriate. There is access to a study leave budget for appropriate CPD activities.
