We are delighted to welcome you as our new Consultant in Critical Care Medicine to join us at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. You will be based at Peterborough City Hospital; however, you will be required to work at Hinchingbrooke Hospital on your Anaesthesia rotation.
You will be joining a dynamic group of supportive Critical Care specialist consultants and other allied specialties such as Anaesthesia and Emergency Medicine, aiming to develop the service, provide a comprehensive patient-centred care while develop further your chosen subspeciality.
As an inspiring leader, you will take an active role in the department consistently implementing evidence-based treatment plans to improve the patient care. You will ensure the quality of the education of both medical and nursing staff.
With a full GMC registration, you should be either on the Specialist Register for Intensive Care Medicine and their Allied Specialty or within 6 months of completion of training on the date of interview.

Main duties of the job
We designed our job plan and on call rota to prioritise both the welfare of our patients and of our consultants, to improve the work/life balance and allow for flexibility as consultants progress through their careers. The exact job plan will be agreed between you, the Critical Care and allied specialty on appointment.
All the predictable and unpredictable DCC work is annualised. In addition to the Critical Care on-call commitment, your job plan will consist of a flexible number of clinical sessions per week for their allied specialty to an agreed annualised total.
The on-call rota is published for the entire year allowing flexibility with the allied specialty rota. Fixed non-clinical days may be negotiated with the base specialty department.
Eight weeks out of twelve will be allocated to a combination of second-on consultant duties in Critical Care and the Acute Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, Anaesthesia and/or Emergency Medicine. You will undertake specific consultant duties based on the allocated department.
You will comply with the roles and responsibilities as defined in the Trust's Health & Safety Policy and be responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults.

- FICM approved training in Intensive Care Medicine to Consultant level or equivalent training recognised by FICM recognised by FICM
- FFICM or DICM or EDIC
- Attended a Critical Care Ultrasound Course
- Has excellent written and verbal English language skills
- Has experience of both working well within a team and leading a team
- Has completed several audit cycles and presented the results
- Has participated in at least one quality improvement project
- Has the ability to critically appraise published evidence
- Has experience of teaching Foundation Year and Specialty Trainees to the standards required by the Royal Colleges
- Regularly participates in a teaching programme
- Has undertaken additional responsibilities in previous roles
