Job summary
North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a new Guardian of Safe Working who will ensure that the roles offered to Junior Doctors are compliant with modern working standards and the working hours are not in excess of the offer made. This is a permanent role on a part-time basis consisting of 1 day or 2 PA's per week.
We have a well-established positive relationship with our Junior Doctors. As our new Guardian of Safe Working, you will work closely with our Junior Doctors based at all Trust's sites using your experience to strengthen and enhance this relationship.
As a leader, you will act independently of the management structure being responsible for protecting the safeguards outlined in the terms and conditions of service for Doctors and Dentists in training. You will inspire the team to achieve results and use your negotiation skills to promote medical and dental education as well as to challenge current practices.
You will be a Consultant, SAS Doctor, or equivalent Senior Management level (A4C 8B or above) with knowledge and understanding of the terms and conditions, safe working patterns, and Working Time Regulations of Doctors (+/-Dentists) in training.

Main duties of the job
The responsibilities of this role include acting as a champion of safe working hours for Doctors and Dentists in approved training programmes ensuring that action is taken to establish that the working hours within the Trust are safe.
You will provide assurance to the Trust Board that Doctors and Dentists within the Trust are safely rostered and are working hours that are safe and in compliance with the TCS.
Following the review of all Exception Reports in respect of safe working hours, you will record and monitor compliance with the restrictions on working hours stipulated in the TCS.
Working in collaboration with the DME and the LNC, you must ensure that the identified issues within Exception Reports, concerning both working hours and educational opportunities, are properly addressed by the Trust.
Any issues in relation to working hours raised in Exception Reports will be reported to the Trust Executive for decisions if they have not been addressed at a local level.
You will undertake work schedule reviews if regular or persistent breaches in safe working hours have not been addressed.
You will receive and review Exception Reports where there are immediate or serious risks to safety, and ensure that the Trust has addressed the concerns at a local level and that the Junior Doctors are aware of the escalation processes.
