Job summary

This is a new and exciting opportunity for a post Primary FRCA candidate with an interest in education and assessment.

The post is for a period of one year initially, renewable by mutual consent. The successful candidate will work flexibly within the Department of Anaesthesia and for the RCOA Exams Department under the supervision of an experienced RCOA Examiner also based in Peterborough.

The successful candidate will be funded by the RCOA to undertake a PG Cert in Medical Education.

The successful candidate will work flexibly on their RCOA duties and some travel to the Red Lion House in London (expenses paid) may be required.

Main duties of the job

The post is for 48 hours per week and the post holder will participate in a 1 in 8 full shift rota on a senior tier supporting theatres, obstetrics and critical acre teams.

Within a sixteen-week period the successful candidate will work 14 long-days (0800-2045), 14 nights (2000-0845) and 12 twilight shifts (1330-2215). Included in these numbers there will be a total of five weekends (two weekends of nights, two weekends of long-days and one weekend of twilights). There will be 30 normal working days in the sixteen-week period; eight days of appropriate anaesthesia lists and 22 days dedicated to RCOA Primary Examinations Fellow duties.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with the RCOA Primary Examiners and Examinations Department. They will receive local supervision by the Deputy Lead of the Primary MCQ Group.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with the FRCA Primary Written Core Group and their perspective and ideas will be welcomed. The role will involve a variety of tasks including: single best answer question writing and editing (training provided); question resource creation; blueprinting the curriculum; involvement with novel online exam database; creation of training resources.

The role will involve review of live Primary Exam questions; the successful candidate will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement and will be responsible for ensuring that they maintain the integrity of the dataset.
