Job summary

To assist the Financial Controller (FC) in the production of annual accounts, monthly Financial Performance returns and associated legal, statutory and management reporting to various government organisation including VAT.

To assist the Financial Controller in all aspects of cash management at the Trust.

To engender - by example - a culture of continuous improvement within the finance department, constantly striving for process improvement underpinned by LEAN principles

Main duties of the job

To work closely and support the FC in the maintenance and control of the Trust's sales and purchase ledgers, cash management systems, fixed asset register, VAT and Charitable Funds and associated procedures, control accounts, bank reconciliations and other systems to ensure that transactions are properly incurred and accounted for ensuring local and national performance standards are achieved. In particular this includes:

Preparing cash flow, monitor receipts and payments, planning, forecasting and monitoring on a regular and routine basis in order to report to the Board monthly and to support proper financial control, particularly taking a key role in achieving the Trust's cash targets and the maintenance of liquidity.

Ensure that all suspense, control and bank account reconciliations are prepared in a timely manner and undertake regular review.

Provide assistance to the FC on PFI accounting primarily dealt with by the Capital, and Systems Accountants, including monitoring contract variations, representing the Trust at meetings, participation in negotiations for market testing and sustainability, compilation of monthly journal to the general ledger and checking calculation for Retention of Employment recharge.

  • Sound up to date working knowledge of relevant account standards (IFRS)

Desirable

  • Knowledge of NHS capital accounting rules and an understanding of fixed asset register and reporting

  • Leading, managing and developing staff
