Job summary
Our Department of Acute Medicine is welcoming an experienced Consultant Acute Physician to join the team. This is a full time permanent role, primarily based at Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon, but will need cross site work to Peterborough City Hospital which may be required at times.
You will be a valued member of our medical consultants team working across our Acute Medicine department on the Medical or Acute Assessment Unit (MAU/AAU), the Short Stay Unit and the Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU).
The MAU/AAU sees, assesses, and treats patients in our acute unselected medical take. The ambulatory care is overseen by a consultant and staffed by specialty doctors and by advanced nurse practitioners. The Short Stay Ward receives medical patients likely to be discharged within 72 hours of admission and achieves a high turnover of patients per day.
We will encourage and support you to develop further your specialist interest by participating in clinical research, as well as to develop a clinical leadership role. We will offer appropriate office accommodation, secretarial and IT support to help with your research projects.

Main duties of the job
You will provide a high quality, safe and compassionate care, to the acutely ill medical patients admitted to our hospital and provide them the best possible experience during their admission.
You will be actively involved in teaching, training and supervising the doctors, nurses, and students in order to promote a positive and supportive atmosphere.
Clinical governance activities such as audits, mortality review and appraisal processes are key to your responsibilities, ensuring that the clinical guidelines are developed and adhered to in line with evidence-based best practice.
The job plan will be agreed with Clinical Lead and the Divisional Director. This is anticipated to contain 10 PAs (8.5 DCC+ 1.5 SPA) with an additional allocation of a 0.5 PA if you are qualified as an Educational supervisor and have trainees allocated. There will also be the option of additional PAs to be discussed. You will also, be joining the 1:6 on call rota.
