Job summary
Our Pathology Team is happy to welcome a qualified Anatomical Pathology Technologist to join the Mortuary and Bereavement Services at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. You will be based at Peterborough City Hospital, however, travel to Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon will be required.
You will be undertaking a variety of activities associated with the post-mortem care of patients including reception, transfers, identifications and viewings of the deceased, ensuring that deceased and their relatives are treated at all times with respect and dignity.
As our new qualified Anatomical Pathology Technologist, you will be assisting with post-mortem examinations as directed by the pathologists and senior mortuary staff. Participate in the provision of a 24 hour out-of-hours service. This will require working alone without immediate supervision.
To be eligible for this role, you will have Level 3 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology, or the equivalent RSPH Certificate and Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology.
You will demonstrate excellent communication skills and an ability to work with people at all levels and backgrounds, as well as tact and sensitivity when attending to the deceased and their bereaved relatives. You will be well organised and able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, sometimes with little supervision.

Main duties of the job
You will participate in routine and specialist work of the department including receiving, recording, weighing and measuring bodies into the mortuary as per agreed protocols, preparing the post mortem room and equipment, and assisting with specialist autopsy techniques. In addition, you will participate in forensic autopsies in the investigations of suspicious death as well as in 'High-Risk' autopsies. You will assist in the collection, preservation and despatch of autopsy samples to other departments or establishments.
Following the autopsy, you will help with the reconstruction of the deceased as per agreed protocols and to the standards required by the department while preparing the bodies for suitable viewing by the relatives. You will release the bodies to funeral directors as per agreed protocols.
As part of your administrative duties, you will ensure that documentation and electronic records are created accurately and maintained appropriately, and the resources are used optimally. You will be in charge of the documentation and safe keeping of deceased's personal effects and valuables, and you will assist with identification procedures for police or HM Coroner.
You will maintain personal, professional and technical competence and awareness by voluntary CPD, as well as personal and professional standards required by the Trust and by the Association of Anatomical Pathology Technicians (AAPT).
