Job summary
Principal elements of the post will be:
Maintenance and development of Respiratory Medicine services within the Trust to the highest standard.
To share with colleagues the responsibility of delivering high quality care in Respiratory Medicine in out-patient and in-patient settings.
To actively participate in both Departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit.
Lead role in infection.
To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
Sessions in Respiratory and General Internal Medicine for NWAngliaFT will include:
2-3 clinics per week in General/Speciality Respiratory Medicine- see proposed job plan.
Providing Consultant cover on B12 including senior input, review of acute admissions and ward rounds (Monday-Friday) along with consultant colleagues.
Providing respiratory review for in-patient acute respiratory admissions on other wards along with colleagues.
Providing regular diagnostic procedures such as bronchoscopy or other interventions such as pleural aspiration/biopsy
Participating in the treatment of acute GIM admissions with other Consultant colleagues in the Emergency Medical Unit.
PCH site you will join the existing staff of 5 NHS Consultants posts, one Respiratory Speciality Doctor, 2 Specialist Training Registrars.
HH site has 3 Consultant posts and 1 specialist registrar.
Each ward area has rotational junior medical staff of various grades attached at any one time.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will also undertake general/speciality Respiratory Medicine out-patient clinics along with in-patient ward work. The candidate will also provide on call within the department of medicine approximately 1 in 15 frequency (variable depending on base site).
The Emergency and Medicine Division includes Admission Units on both in patient sites:
PCH: Medical Admission Unit- 23 Beds; Short stay Unit (A3)- 35 beds
HH: Acute Admission Unit- 8 Beds; Short stay unit
Ambulatory Care Units run on both sites and compliment services.
The Trust also uses Discharge Lounges to help facilitate discharges.
The post holder is managerially accountable to the Divisional Operational Director and clinically accountable to the Lead Clinician in Respiratory Medicine and the Divisional Director in the Medicine and Emergency Division.
Applicants must be members of the Royal College of Physicians or have equivalent experience and training. They must be fully registered with a license to practice with the General Medical Council with specialist registration in General Internal Medicine and Respiratory Medicine or be within 6 months of CCT for these specialties. Specialists in General Internal Medicine & Respiratory Medicine, recognised by EEC are eligible to apply.
Appropriate office accommodation, secretarial support and IT support will be provided.
About us
The job plan will be developed in conjunction with the Lead Clinician and Divisional Director, Divisional Operations Director, other Respiratory Consultant colleagues and Royal Papworth Hospital. It will be finalised once the successful candidate is appointed to meet the skills they bring.
Clinical PAs will be split between Ward rounds, out-patient clinics and other specialty areas (see sample rota below).
NB: This job has been written with a 10PA timetable. However, we would consider candidates wishing to work more or less: the timetable would be adjusted accordingly with negotiation with the successful candidate.
