Job summary
The job plan and on call rota have been designed to prioritise both the welfare of our patients and of our consultants, improve work life balance and allow for flexibility as consultants progress through their careers. We hope to attract applications from both new and established consultants. We will support applications from consultants wishing to workflexibly and/or less than full time.
Applicants should have full GMC registration and should be on the Specialist Register for Intensive Care Medicine or within 6 months of completion of training on the date of interview.
Main duties of the job
The Trust's combined Critical Care Unit consists of 16 bed spaces, generally running on 13 mixed dependency beds. The beds are used flexibly between Level 2 and Level 3 patients. We are currently expanding to open the equivalent of 12 L3 beds. There are a range of trainees attached to the unit from FY1s to ST6s undergoing higher training in Critical Care Medicine. The on-call trainees work up to a maximum of 13 hour shifts and there is a resident consultant between 08:00 and 22:00hrs seven days a week. Monday to Friday 8am-6pm, there is also a 2nd on Consultant for theCritical Care Unit. This Consultant provides assistance to the 1st on-call Critical Care Consultant and the Critical Care Outreach Team.
