Job summary
The Department is based at the Peterborough City Hospitaland Hinchingbrooke Hospital with some outlying work undertaken at Stamford Hospital. The sites constitutes of two District General Hospitals. All sub-speciality Orthopaedic areas are provided with the exception of spinal surgery. At Peterborough we have a dedicated 32 bed ward for fragility fractures. The orthopaedic consultants are supported by two ortho geriatric consultants and the medical team who help look after elderly hip fracture patients and peri-prosthetic fractures. There is another 35 bed ward for additional trauma patients at Peterborough. In addition to the two above there are facilities for paediatric patients at dedicated area and day care surgery for shoulder, foot and ankle including hands.
At Hinchingbrooke there will be a dedicated ring fenced ward with a capacity of 24 beds for inpatient arthroplasty and revision procedures. Two whole day dedicated theatres will provide the necessary operating space for arthroplasty with some further theatre lists available for day case work as well.
Fracture clinics run daily Monday to Friday and two Trauma list run 5 days a week. Dedicated trauma lists are also available on the weekend.
Elective services run Monday to Friday currently. All aspects of arthroplasty surgery both lower and upper limb are provided. Outputs on an annual basis would be more than 1400 recorded episodes in The National Joint Registry.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be responsible for the treatment of patients with proximal femoral fractures at Peterborough City Hospital in. The successful applicant will join a department which currently comprises 28 full and part time consultants. The department offers a wide range of sub-specialities with the exception of spinal surgery.
At present all Trauma and day case elective orthopaedic surgery is now undertaken at Peterborough City Hospital (PCH) with Primary arthroplasty taking place at the Hinchingbrooke site. The new appointment will supervise all aspects of care for all hip fracture patients admitted to Peterborough City Hospital (approximately 400 per year).
