This job is now closed

Job summary

A 10 PA Post covering four days Tuesday - Friday comprising Clinics, LA & GA operating and Teaching Juniors.

Second on call one day a week (Wednesday|) and one in ten weekends (Fri-Sun).

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is situated within Peterborough City Hospital where we occupy a purpose built modern unit. The department offers services encompassing OMFS and Restorative Dental Surgery. There is an integral day theatre within the unit as well as our own radiology unit equipped with a CBCT supported by radiographers from the main Department of Radiology.

Main duties of the job

The post of Specialty Doctor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is attached to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and responsible to the Consultants of that department.

The appointment is for 10 sessions a week and it is envisaged that the successful candidates would work initially along the lines of the timetable attached. In order to allow flexibility within the department, there may be some rescheduling from time to time.

The duties of the posts are the normal duties of a Dental Surgeon in this grade and speciality. The persons appointed will be required to undertake Dento-Alveolar Surgery on day case patients under both general and local anaesthesia utilising several operating sessions per week. They will also undertake outpatient clinics for the assessment, treatment and review of patients.

There is a once a week 'second on call' commitment on Wednesdays and 1:10 weekends (Saturday and Sunday), which will support the 'first on-call' Dental Core Trainee. These posts will therefore bring with it responsibility for inpatient care that will be shared with the other Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery staff.

We have a networked weekend on call with Addenbrooke's Hospital. However, the post holder will only cover Peterborough City Hospital in conjunction with a Peterborough Consultant.
