Job summary
This is a full time one year post for a Trust Doctor in General Surgery with opportunity of extension.
An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join and support the General Surgery team. Hinchingbrooke Hospital has merged with Peterborough and Stamford since the 1st of April 2017 and have formed the North West Anglia NHS Trust. The General Surgery at Peterborough City Hospital has 10 full time consultant General Surgeons so there will be significant exposure to clinical work. This post is ideal for candidates who want to gain exposure to General Surgery before applying for higher specialist training. At least 1 year experience in General Surgery would be desirable.
Main duties of the job
The job plan will be tailored to the successful candidate's needs and will include clinical sessions which will be supervised such as clinics, theatres etc. as well as daily ward rounds and day to day management of inpatients. There is an active research programme that will lead to the successful completion of at least one audit project by the candidate. There are also weekly teaching sessions available to the junior doctors.
This is an ideal post for an individual seeking either broad experience or career in General Surgery. Operative procedures on a regular basis provide a comprehensive general surgical service covering all the main sub specialties including laparoscopic surgery, but with the exception of cardiothoracic and neurosurgery. There is also full cover of the minor surgical specialties. Within the department facilities also include a vascular laboratory and anorectal physiology studies.
