Job summary
Peterborough City Hospital has a fantastic Trauma & Orthopaedic Department, with a daily trauma and sub speciality trauma list run daily.
On the SHO rota, You will join a team of 7 junior doctors, and 6 nurse practitioners, with trauma and elective theatre opportunities, exposure to clinics as well as ward work, and daytime/ night time on-call shifts.
The 1:8 rota means that you cover a full shift pattern alongside other Trust doctors as well as rotating training doctors, covering nights, weekends, long days and normal working days and some early starts when scheduled for theatre sessions.
Ward rounds are included in the weekly schedule.

The day starts at 8am with the trauma meeting in the seminar room. The consultant on call will review all the patients admitted over the previous 24hours as well as any acute trauma admissions still on the ward. The meeting is led by the on call consultant and you will be expected to attend if you are on call that day, were on call the previous day or are covering B5 that day.
The night SHO should get there at 7:30am to start up the computer and load up all the X-rays from the last 24 hours. The patients are presented by the admitting SHO who was on call the previous day/night.
As well as seeing patients referred from ED, you may be called down to fracture clinic to see patients who the consultant as planned to bring in for surgery. As with all other admissions, they need clerking, consent and marking.
When covering B5, you will be responsible for the acute trauma inpatients and the trauma patients on B5. All the patients need to be seen every day. If the patient is under a team that is no longer on call, the reg/consultant for that team will see them periodically- but that may not be every day. If they have not been seen that day, you need to make sure you see them and action any management plans.
