An amazing opportunity has arisen within Emergency & Medicine for the ideal candidate to contribute to the Geriatric/ MFoP service supporting Acute Frailty, within the MFoP, Stroke, and Neurology CBU.
This post is based at Peterborough City Hospital eventually extending across to Hinchingbrooke Hospital. However, with services developments and improvements underway our intention is to carry this service cross site lending to the need for flexibility of working and supporting all teams within the CBU.
Main duties of the job
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Take part in the acute healthcare services of the employing facility as and when requested, and work within the policies and procedures of the organisation.
Practice under the supervision of a Consultant in Geriatric Medicine and other medically qualified staff.
Take patient histories and perform physical examinations of a patient. Record or dictate the history and physical examination in the medical record.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests or various other therapies, as permitted by their role. Radiology orders should be delegated to other team members.
Establish differential diagnosis, make appropriate treatment plans and initiate emergency treatment.
Refer and converse with appropriate specialists in regard to patient management.
Perform diagnostic/therapeutic procedures, subject to PA training/experience/competencies, such as:
Initiation of IV therapy by peripheral and central routes
Injections
Venepuncture
Initiation of Basic/Advanced Life Support in all patients and in all settings.
Administration of medications
Other interventions or procedures as directed by the supervising physician.

Essential
- Relevant healthcare or science degree prior to undertaking PA programme.
- The Physician Associate must be a graduate of an accredited Physician Associate training program and be certified.
- Maintain Continuing Education and take relevant re-certification exams as stipulated by registering bodies to maintain certification status.
- BLS, Immediate Life Support, Advanced Life Support, European Paediatric Life Support Course (UK applicants).
- Member of UKAPA or equivalent.
Desirable
- Past experience
- Demonstrate understanding of National programme for Frailty
- CPR, ACLS and PALS certification required (US applicants), or willingness to undertake
