Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a dynamic and cohesive team of paediatricians at Northwest Anglia Foundation Trust as maternity cover. NWAFT comprises Peterborough City Hospital, Hinchingbrooke Hospital and Stamford Hospital. We are looking to appoint a paediatrician with an interest in neonatology to join a team of 22 hospital based consultants for a period of 6 months initially. The post holder will be one of 14 general paediatricians based in Peterborough and will be expected to support the neonatal service as one of 6 consultants with a neonatal interest. Peterborough City Hospital has a Local Neonatal Unit (Level 2) with 20 cots and we have approximately 5000 deliveries a year. We are part of the East of England Neonatal Network and have close links with The Rosie Maternity Unit at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge.
Main duties of the job
- Part of the 1:6 Neonatal Consultant of the Week rota
- 1:12 weekend and out of hours cover for general paediatric and neonatalogy
- Weekly general paediatric, rapid access and neonatal follow up clinics
- Teaching and supervision of trainee paediatricians and VTS trainees
- Participation in audit/clinical governance
- Participation in the administration and management of the department
- Continuing Professional Development
Teaching and Research
The post holder will be expected to take part in the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes and will be encouraged to initiate, supervise and carry out research activities within the department.
Clinical Governance
The post holder will be expected to have a self-critical approach to clinical practice and to participate in the departmental audit programme. They will be expected to keep up to date with continuing professional development and in particular, to fulfil the RCPCH requirements for continuing medical education.
