Main duties of the job

Would you like to join our team to deliver our new rapid COVID-19 testing service at Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital, to ensure timely treatment and a safe environment for our patients and staff?

Applications for fixed term positions to the end of June 2021 are invited from motivated and energetic individuals to work alongside our point of care testing (POCT) and microbiology laboratory teams at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. NWAFTis a busy acute hospital Trust covering 3 hospital sites

Full training will be provided in the operation of state-of-the-art diagnostic analyser systems within a disciplined, scientific environment. Successful applicants will be able to demonstrate an organised, systematic approach to complex tasks that require extended periods of concentration and attention to detail. You will be required to participate in a 24/7 shift system to provide front line clinical staff with this essential diagnostic service.

Essential

  • A-levels (must inc. Biology or Chemistry)

Desirable

  • Relevant Foundation Degree, Level 4 BTEC, IBMS Certificate of Achievement Level 2, or equivalent
  • Evidence of training in other areas related to Laboratory work e.g. Health & Safety

Experience

Essential

  • Laboratory experience (education or professional) to include pipetting

Desirable

  • Work experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory
  • Experience with PCR based manual extraction techniques
  • Experience of molecular testing
  • Experience with data inputting

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge/understanding of data protection

Desirable

  • Understanding of basic diagnostic microbiological techniques
  • Knowledge of molecular techniques
