Job summary

The Estate and Facilities Directorate holds a key role in ensuring that the Trust's continued excellent reputation and 'Outstanding' CQC status. The directorate also played a significant role in facilitating the hospital's move from its old site to the new, purpose built, state-of-the-art, hospital on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus in 2019.

The Clinical Engineering department plays a key role in the directorate, contributing to making a difference to both the work of the directorate and the wider hospital as a whole.

The focus of the Clinical Equipment Safety Technician is to provide technical support to the team by completing visual and functional inspections of medical equipment and conducting appropriate electrical safety testing and basic fault-finding.

You will work closely and collaboratively with the Head of Clinical Engineering to ensure that the medical equipment throughout the hospital operates effectively and safely in service of excellent patient treatment and care.

Main duties of the job

To provide technical support to Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (RPHNHSFT) and other healthcare providers as determined by Clinical Engineering contract activity.

Work in clinical areas, normally unsupervised but with access to technical/managerial advice and support by telephone or by returning to department.

Contributes to the equipment support service by providing a careful visual and functional inspection of medical equipment.

Completes an appropriate electrical safety test following inspection of the mains supply cable, connections, plug and fuse.

Identifies and resolves basic medical equipment accessory faults (and parts close to failure) on equipment e.g. failing Non-invasive Blood Pressure (NIBP) hoses/cuffs.

Commissions/calibrates a limited range of medical equipment unsupervised in defined circumstances e.g. but not limited to tympanic ear thermometers, gas equipment, pressure mattresses, heater cooler care processes and sphygmomanometers.
