ECG Assistant Practitioner

Job summary

The post holder is expected to provide simple foundation cardiac physiology services for a range of non complex tests in the ECG Department.

Areas of focus will be expected in patient care, advice and assisting with our ECG services.

This includes doing ECGs, Blood pressures and Holter monitoring, including the setting up and initiating of cardiac recording devices, as well as enabling results to be transferred to other systems.

The post holder will also be expected to ensure the ECG Team equipment is logged, cleaned and kept to a high standard. Overall, the post holder should expect to be providing a high quality, patient focused comprehensive ECG Team service within Cardiac Physiology.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will perform basic diagnostic tests, such as ECGs, in routine and occasionally in non-routine ways, on wards and in dedicated ECG rooms in outpatients. The post holder can expect to be following local proformas, workflows and guidelines for patient management, acquired through formal in-house training. Work will need to be prioritised and escalated in line with department guidance.

The post holder will be expected to make simple decisions, involving basic facts or situations that impact on patients. They will be expected to communicate and work with a multidisciplinary professional team, assist ongoing research projects, and contribute to the educational needs of the ECG team and other professions and participate in the Trust training within the scope of the ECG Team.

The post-holder will be expected to deliver patient-centred care. They will need to behave with integrity, honesty and compassion.

In addition to clinical work, the post holder will be expected to assist with other responsibilities, such as stock control, helping with training and working with the rota staff to ensure ECG services are covered, and attending departmental meetings. A flexible team player approach would be an advantage. There will be opportunities for personal development and training for the post and will be expected to engage fully with the inhouse competences and training program. In addition, there are opportunities for doing national ECG courses and education.

  • Evidence should show training and experience equivalent to NVQ Level 3, Vocational level 3, GCE AS and A level or Baccalaureate Qualification Advanced or equivalent level of knowledge

Desirable

  • SCST certificate in doing an ECG
  • SCST diploma in ECG interpreting skills

Experience

  • Evidence experience of working in a healthcare setting such as a hospital or care home.
