Job summary
An exciting new opportunity has arisen within the Thoracic Oncology Directorate. There is a high volume and fast turnover of patients undergoing investigations and procedures. This role involves providing a high quality, patient focused, efficient service guiding patients through their cancer pathway. The successful candidate will be responsible for complimenting the role of the Lung Cancer Nurse Specialists.
A large part of the role will involve contacting patients with suspected or confirmed cancer, informing them of the date and time of their forthcoming biopsy and any other necessary investigation e.g., respiratory function tests, scans, cardiac investigations. The post holder will monitor progress along the diagnostic pathway, highlighting any problems ensuring escalation of a patient's management is actioned to prevent a breach of Cancer Waiting Times.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills and enjoy working as part of a team. Your ability to think beyond the norm, embrace change and be open to new ways of working are essential for this forward focused role.
Previous experience of working in a healthcare environment is highly desirable, as well as a flexible approach to working hours. You will be required to enter accurate data onto the Trust's Electronic Patient Record and Somerset Cancer Register (SCR) database.
