We are seeking a Senior Clinical and Academic Fellow in Cardiothoracic Critical Care, combining specialist clinical practice with a significant role in Medical Education.
You will join a skilled multidisciplinary team caring for patients with advanced heart and lung disease, including those requiring mechanical circulatory support, ECMO, and transplantation. You will also have dedicated time to teach undergraduate students from the University of Cambridge and postgraduate trainees across the East of England, with a focus on simulation-based education and point-of-care ultrasound. You will have the opportunity to contribute to innovation and research in both the clinical and educational aspects of the role.

In addition to the standard study leave budget, the successful candidate will receive 2,000 pounds of dedicated funding to support a course of their choice, further enhancing their clinical, educational, or leadership portfolio.

Main duties of the job
*Clinical
Provide high-quality care for patients with advanced heart and lung disease including those requiring transplantation, ECMO and mechanical circulatory support.
Contribute to the safe and effective delivery of day and night-time critical care services as part of the resident rota.
Participate in emergency resuscitation support across the hospital.
Maintain accurate and contemporaneous records including patient documentation, logbooks and audit data.
Engage actively in clinical audit, service evaluation and quality improvement projects within the ICU.
Support departmental clinical research and contribute to ongoing or new research initiatives.
*Education
Teach and supervise undergraduate medical students from the University of Cambridge and postgraduate trainees within the East of England Deanery.
Lead and support simulation-based education and point-of-care ultrasound teaching.
Participate in the design, delivery and evaluation of innovative educational programmes.
Contribute to professional development of colleagues through workplace and formal teaching sessions.
*General
Adhere to Trust and departmental policies.
Maintain professional standards in line with GMC guidance and act as a role model for junior colleagues.
Contribute to Trust's Quality Improvement strategy and relevant QI initiatives.
Take part in appraisal and maintain a portfolio demonstrating ongoing professional and educational development.
