Senior Anaesthetic Practitioner

Job summary

The theatre anaesthetic team are looking for a Senior Operating Department Practitioner or Registered Nurse (with relevant AAGBI recognised qualification) to join the team; within their specialised cardiothoracic suite comprising of six theatres and dedicated thoracic recovery area.

Main requirements:

ODP with current registration with the HCPC or Registered Nurse (with relevant UK recognised anaesthetic qualification)

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Excellent organisational skills to deal with changing priorities

Ability to supervise staff within a theatre setting

Main duties of the job

You will act as a clinical expert for this speciality and be responsible for direct supervision of the anaesthetic team, ensuring that daily activity flows smoothly and efficiently without unnecessary breaks in care delivery. This is mainly a clinical role, with first line management elements.

Professionally accountable and responsible for the high quality care and a safe environment for patients within their delegated clinical area.

Manage staff and resources in the safe and effective delivery of clinical care, attempting to problem solve and escalating to the Clinical Leads for Anaesthetics as appropriate.

Have the skills, knowledge and expertise to be able to take appropriate action when dealing with emergencies.

Be a role model to junior colleagues in the delivery of patient care.

Be responsible for direct leadership of delegated staff, including, but not limited to, performing staff appraisals and escalating to senior colleagues' areas of poor conduct and performance and undertaking appropriate action to support improvement.

Act as an agent of change in achieving a culture that is flexible and responds positively to the needs of the service and our patients.

Support the Clinical Leadership team in activities related to the improvement of theatre utilisation ensuring effective communication and flow.
