Job summary

The Cambridge Centre for Lung Infection (CCLI) at Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Hospital is looking to appoint an experienced Nurse to join the Cystic Fibrosis Team in supporting care delivery to this patient group. We care for approximately 400 adolescent and adult patients, supporting them through both inpatient and outpatient journeys.

Royal Papworth Hospital is not only a world-renowned Cardio-thoracic hospital, but it is also home to 1 of 9 Adult CF centres in England. The service is part of the Cambridge Centre for Lung Infection (CCLI), and is supported by a multidisciplinary team including: CF specialist consultants; specialist nurses; a dedicated ward nursing team; research nurses; specialist physiotherapists, dieticians, pharmacists, social workers; a psychologist and psychiatrist; secretaries; and a management team.

It has been an exciting few years in the CF community, with the development and licensing of CFTR modulator therapies, and how we care for our patients has evolved alongside this.

Our specialist nurses' welcome new patients transitioning from both adult and paediatric care referring centres, and facilitates, co-ordinates the complex care requirements of this clinically challenging speciality, liaising closely with the extended specialist multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will be clinically experienced nurses, ideally in the CF specialty, with excellent communication, organisational skills and will be a resourceful team player. They will work closely with the ward team to provide a high standard of care to our cohort of patients.

Work collaboratively with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate specialist care, setting realistic goals and supporting discharge planning. Provide skilled, evidence-based care for complex patients with unpredictable needs, prioritising workload and escalating appropriately.

Contribute to CCLI bed management, M and M, and MDT meetings, ensuring actions are followed through. Support Rota management, complex discharges, and transition clinics from paediatric to adult care.

Act as a role model, providing clinical supervision, mentoring junior staff, and deputising for the team lead when required. Promote effective communication, lead and participate in specialist education, and support policy development, service improvement, and research.

Undertake audits, act as a link nurse, and work closely with the CCLI research team to evaluate and enhance service delivery, maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and care.
